     Famous as the harbinger of spring, crocuses actually bloom over much of the year. Crocuses are native to the Mediterranean area, but most sold today are Dutch garden hybrids fallcrocus.jpg (11031 bytes)

  Size: 2-4" tall

Habit: Clumping

Leaves: Green strap-like, basal,  with a white stripe down the central vein.

Culture: Well drained, sandy, acid to neutral soil. Full sun or light shade.

Utilization: Rock Garden, meadow, border, woodland, container.

Propagation: Dig up corms and replant 5 inches deep.  More info on propagation.

Disease and Pest: Moles, gophers and rodents

Climate Range: Zone 3-10

Bloom Color: White, blue, purple, lavender, orange, yellow, gold and multi-color.

Cultivars:

Too many to list, most are spring blooming and vary mainly by flower color.
