Lavenders

Lavendula angustifolia


Used as potpourri and perfumes for centuries the Lavender plant is an excellent addition to a dry site in your yard. Use a rose or other potash-rich fertilizer in mid spring and again in mid summer. Lightly mulch in spring and fall.Cut back 2 inches into the woody tissue after flowering to promote a compact shape.


Size: 1-3 feet depending on cultivar

Habit: rounded

Bloom Season: Summer

Culture: Full sun, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant

Utilization: Rock gardens, herb garden, cut flowers, small hedges or masses.

Propagation: Stem cuttings in summer, seeds, or division in the fall. More info on propagation

Disease and Insects: Leaf spot, root rot, caterpillars and root-knot nematode, however none of these tend to be a serious problem in the home landscape.
